Message from the President

Greetings from Yang Berbahagia Datuk Jake Jikulin Nointin

— President of Sabah Karate Association (SKA), 2020-2021

A very warm welcome to one and all to our very own Sabah Karate Association (SKA)’s official website. With the era of new technology, SKA thus go forward with the inception of this website.

Through my years with SKA, l have seen how the association has grown from strength to strength and how it has developed in terms of sports achievement, logistics and administration as well as technically. I am proud to have involved in the process.

Today, SKA is a recognized and well known karate association in Malaysia and all over the world. It is our goal to spread karate based on the ancient tradition of Japanese Bushido. It is also our purpose to promote physical and mental terms, through the teaching of the art of karate on an equally opportunity regardless of age, sex, nationality, race, social status or profession. However, l would like to remind all of us the principal of karate as what Supreme Master Gichin Funakoshi said, “True karate is this; that in daily life one’s mind and body be trained and developed in a spirit of humility and that in critical times, one be devoted utterly to the cause of justice.”

A trained karate-ka (practitioner karate-do) of SKA must practice the principles of karate-do and the five (5) Dojo-Kun, that is:-

  1. Seek perfection of character.
  2. Be faithful
  3. Endeavor.
  4. Respect others.
  5. Refrain from violent behaviour.

Becoming a true follower of Karate-Do as possible only when one attains perfection in spiritual and physical. Thus, l am confident SKA’s member will pursue the same goal to ensure the standard of karate in Sabah is improving. To-date, Sports Karate is getting popular and another reminder to all of us that we must not neglect the three fundamental of karate, kihon (basic techniques), kata and kumite. Through practice, it will inevitably grow strength, spirit and discipline.

Lastly, l am confident that SKA and our strong committee team and members will claim our place in the international arena and say “We Have Arrived”.

A very best wishes from all of us at the SKA to all of you and all the true karate-ka.
